Since graduation where have you lived?
Southern CA, Portland, OR, back to the bay area, then Placer county, N. CA, since 1981. Worked in a lot of other states, from Anchorage, AK to Dallas, TX, Virginia, & NY, but still like CA best. Though these smokey summers are getting to be a bit much!
What careers have you pursued?
Sales, starting with motorcycles. Then managed a Kawasaki dealership in Portland, OR for a time, then autos, RVs, RE, and RE financing. Just retired recently as a senior loan specialist from the SBA after 20+ years.
What are your hobbies?
travel, biking, motorcycling, kayaking, & and now that the grandkids are taking up skiing, snow skiing again
What has been your most memorable trip?
Probably a Europe trip, back when Kawasaki was generous with sales bonuses. Went to Europe for 3 weeks in the winter, including a ski week in St. Anton, Austria, which was simply amazing. The runs were so long, the temp. would change 30+ degrees from the top to the bottom. We went through a few other countries from England down to our departure from Rome. Even saw the Pope. More recently, spent a memorable couple weeks in Costa Rica, including an off-grid stay next to the amazing Parque Nacional Corcovado. This is a huge biodiverse tropical rainforest.Turned out our guide and part owner of the lodging property, was a fellow Saratoga H.S. alum, class of '74 I believe. Small world!
Tell us about your family.
Still happily married since 1980, with three sons. and three grandkids, all from the middle son. They all live within a 40 minute drive, so we get to spend as much time together as their schedules allow. Drew is 36, joined the marines after H.S., and came back from 2 overseas tours with only minor scars, thank God. Now works in security. Ben, 34, went into nursing, and after a time as a travelling nurse in CA, has recently taken a permanent job in the cath lab dept. at Kaiser in Sacramento. The hours work a lot better for the family life, in Rocklin. Alex, 25, finished at Sac State, and just as Covid was closing down opptys, got on as a Med. assist. with Sutter in the area, Folsom currently. He is working on moving up in healthcare, looking at a PA program when the time is right. He is still dating, well off and on, a girlfriend he's known since kindergarten! So guess you could say they're taking their time!
What is your most vivid memory from high school?
Who was your favorite teacher/class?
I noticed no one mentioned math teacher Harry (Harold) Dick as a favorite. I recall he was a good teacher, though too serious. Though my favorite was John Schreiber, afterall he did take Jeff Conroy and I to the Doors concert in S.F..
If retired, what keeps you occupied/productive?
Just retired in May, just couldn't spend any more long days in front of the computer. So now, mostly spend time managing our forested acreage and cabin on 10 acres, above Foresthill, CA. So we cut & thin the trees, chop firewood, between hiking and biking, swimming/kayaking at the local reservoir. Been taking up rain dancing, hope it works! The low water level in local lakes and reservoirs is getting scary! We'll also spend more time with the travel trailer, plan to head down the coast this week.
What has been the most satisfying thing in your life so far?
